Super Sports Events is excited to announce the first ever “Hatta Hills” Running Festival taking place on the 11th March, 2016. This prestigious race promises to be a challenging and inspiring running race for all ages and abilities.
“The Running Festival concept is to ensure we can offer the entire family an opportunity to participate on the day. The 21.1km and 10km races will be for the seasoned campaigners and for the juniors and beginner runners, there will be a 3km and 5km x-country run within the Hatta Fort Hotel grounds” commented Warren van der Merwe, Race Director from Super Sports Events. “The Hotel and Hatta Municipality have offered us all the support we need to make this a memorable race for all so we are looking forward to seeing many families coming down to enjoy the day or weekend in Hatta and help us make this an annual race on the Dubai Calendar”
Starting from the lawns of the enchanting Hatta Fort Hotel, the longer distance runners will make their way out of the Hotel main entrance, up the palm tree lined avenue toward the Hatta Municipal Park where they will be treated to a 1km asphalt running surface. Runners will then face a 24% steep gradient incline as they ascend to the top of the dam and reservoir walls respectively to view the majestic Hajar Mountain Range.
The course then descends onto the off road part of the course where runners will navigate their way through the mountain range and wadi’s on a compact off road surface. The turn-around for half marathoners is literally a dead-end in the road in front of a sheer rock face before making their way back to the hotel.
For the more sociable 5 and 3km fun runners, a X-Country course has been prepared within the beautiful and hilly grounds of the hotel, which will finish in the same place as all other runners on the morning.
With spectacular scenery along the way, this running festival is for the whole family with four different distances to choose from on the day. All ages and abilities are invited and a mix of on and off road running will be experienced by all runners!
Nicholas Campos, Operations Manager of the Hatta Fort Hotel commented, “This running festival is a great initiative by Super Sports to bring running families and activities to Hatta and with our beautiful scenery, I am sure all runners will return year after year! Post-race we will be offering a breakfast to runners and their families and with many expected to spend the night at the hotel, it will be a perfect way to spend the weekend with us here in Hatta”
Diarmud O’ Malley, a seasoned Dubai runner added “This is a unique race, different to any other race in the UAE. The hilly terrain will provide excellent training conditions for those athletes competing internationally in races like the Comrades. Scenery at the Hatta Dam is amazing and then when you descend in to the wadi at the reservoir you will be surrounded by steep mountain walls – so overall it will be a challenging yet memorable run”.
