Some of the world’s best polo teams and players will be in Dubai for the inaugural Threadneedle Dubai Gold Cup
The Threadneedle Dubai Gold Cup (“Gold Cup”) is to be held at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club from the 6th-12th March 2010. This will be the first time Dubai hosts the Gold cup series polo tournament, one of the most important and prestigious polo tournaments to grace the region.
The Gold Cup has been sponsored by Threadneedle, an investment company, fully-owned by Ameriprise Financial, a publicly quoted company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. The association with Threadneedle will further enhance the Gold Cup to become a world-class sporting event for Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.
Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor, Founder of the Gold Cup said: “Dubai will, for the first time, stage an international polo tournament hosting some of the best polo teams and players in the world. Some of the most respected names from the world of polo have confirmed their participation in the Gold Cup. A total of eight polo teams from Chile, England, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates will compete in the week long tournament. The teams confirmed are: Habtoor 2 of Dubai played under the patronage of Mr. Mohammed Al Habtoor, Zedan Polo of Saudi Arabia playing under the patronage of Mr. Amr Zedan, Sumaya Polo of Chile play under the patronage of Mr. Ahmed Aboughazale, Dubai Falcons will play under the patronage of Mr. Saeed Bin Drai, The First Group Polo Team of England will play under the patronage of Mr. Gary Shepherd, and Habtoor 1 of Dubai play under Mr. Rashid Al Habtoor.

The Gold Cup is to be held under the rules and regulations of the Hurlingham Polo Association, the governing body of the sport in the UK & Ireland. Along with the Hurlingham Polo Association providing umpires and officials for the week long tournament, we are pleased to have them as a partner for this event.
