Kite

Kiting is a sport which is using a Kite.
Depending on the type of Kite and on the purpose of using, the Kiting splits into three big categories:

  • Playing with the Kite, in the back side of your house, on the field, on the beach, on the playing courtyard, mainly for children but not limited to. Sometimes even the big guys became dotards and they are trying to chill out with the kite.
  • Sporting Kite – this one is using kites with different shapes and sizes, like terrifying dragons, dolls, birds, flies, UFO’s, airplanes or special shapes which need to be controlled well, this is also used in acrobatic figures competitions.
  • Power Kiting – In this category the kite is used as an engine. The wind power is being transformed by the kite in a traction force to pull, tug and twist a sport man or a dude on a different locomotion system: rollers, skis, snowboards, surfboards, skates, buggy vehicles and others.

Now as you can see, kite surfing belongs to this category: Power Kite Surfing is using a special kite, (which can also have different shapes and sizes) and a surf board. These surfing Kites have an inflated frame which keeps the shape and allows a quick re launch if dropped into the water. The kite is attached to the rider’s body by a breach, girdle or a special belt, designed in such a manner to hold a big part of rider’s backside in order to avoid traumas. Usually they have a control system with two lines and a control bar. Comparing this with other water sports does not necessarily require waves, but it is a must to have good wind.

Most of the kite surfers from the UAE are located in Dubai( also in Abu Dhabi they are very well organized) and they are quite a nice group. You can see them during the windy days on Jumeirah open beach, hanging in the sky, in their desperate attempt to conquer both the sea and the sky… and maybe the hearts of the girls from the beach too. They used to say that this extreme “fight” with sea, with the wind and with themselves is not for everybody. But if you want to prove that you’re not anybody and if you want to learn how to fly on the sea, they are willing to help or to teach you.
