Hiking

Hiking is a very popular activity in the UAE (despite the hot weather). A very healthy outdoor activity, which consists of walking medium to longer distances through natural environments, in the mountains or some rough terrain, requiring some special shoes called hiking boots.

There are different kinds of hiking, like one day hiking and multi-day hiking, which in some parts of the world is known as trekking or tramping. In the UAE you can call it what you wish, the point is that here we have hiking routes for all levels of experience, regardless of your age and whether you seeking a challenge or a more leisurely hike. The mountains and the Wadis are eager to feel your feet and to refresh themselves with your sweat.

Generally ‘Wadi’ means the valley and the riverbed of what used to be a river. These Wadis carry water only during times of heavy rain but this happens very rarely here in the UAE. During the historical times they were associated with human settlements because of the underground water, in some cases.

The Wadis of the UAE provide a powerful attraction for trip lovers. Considering the weather you can attack them in off road vehicles or by walking. Unfortunately the water is a treasure here in the UAE and you can count on the fingers of one hand the canyons that have some slander river which pretends to be “frightening”. Anyways we have some very nice sculptured canyons and mountains where you can experience almost any outdoor activity you could wish to, including: hiking, walking, climbing, camping, a.a

Furthermore, during such a walking trip you can also see some historical sites, because even if we talk about the UAE as it is known today since 1971, recent archaeological discoveries confirm the long history of these places. Almost everywhere in the country, wherever you go you will find prints of an old and organized civilization, not to mention the fort’s vestiges and the watch towers placed strategically along the country’s border.
