Cycling

Most cyclists you will see in the UAE are labors or delivery boys on their bikes. You will be surprised at how big the community of professional and semi professional cyclists is within the UAE. Because of the traffic and hot summer temperatures you will see them only at a few spots across the city or some guys on their mountain bikes in the wadis. If you see a group of 100 bike riders on the weekends, riding through the city or mountains, you will not believe your eyes. We are all used to the ‘Same, same’ for a lot of outdoor activities, but the East Coast and their mountains offer some of the nicest spots for cycling. Within Dubai and Abu Dhabi, you will miss a lot of inclines except for bridges. The Hatta and Fujairah Mountains as well as Jebel Hafit will offer you nice routes with streets in good condition. Most of the time traffic is moderate, but be aware as no drivers really expect cyclists. Attention to cyclists are not very good, cars pass very close to them or even cutting their line of cycling. Please ensure you pay some extra attention to yourself and you will enjoy riding a lot. Regular meeting groups of cyclists can be safe and full of fun.
