Budding triathletes descended on Yas Island as part of Daman’s Tri Fit Challenge – the three-month training programme which encourages people of all ages to get active and live a healthier lifestyle, with the aim of competing in the pinnacle of world triathlon – the ITU World Triathlon Series Abu Dhabi 2018 in March. 50 enthusiastic participants of all ages, shapes and sizes took to Yas Marina circuit last night for the Bike and Run session, headed by coaches from On Running and BeSport Bike Shop.

Hoping to compete in her first triathlon at WTS Abu Dhabi 2018, Soha Abed Elaal, a physical education teacher from Egypt said; “I wanted to do something new. I represented Egypt at the Beijing Olympics in 2008 in Archery and trained some of the youth national team [here in the UAE]. I have a passion for the sport and it can be boring to do the same thing again and again. I thought ‘I can run, I can swim’ – my challenge is the bike. My daughter and husband encouraged me to try and here I am! The Daman programme is very good, everyone is so helpful!”

The 12-week training programme looks to support participants of all capabilities – one tailored to first-timers looking to swim, bike and run their way to their first-ever triathlon; and the second for seasoned amateur triathletes looking to beat their personal best.
